It is because a lot of changes happen in this developmental stage. Body hair grows, sweat may already be accompanied by body odor, acne develops and the scalp becomes oily. Tip 1: Hair Hygiene
Having an attractive hair is one of the concerns of teenagers. During adolescence, the scalp begins to produce more oil making it easier for dirt to cling to the hair. Therefore, you need to purchase a shampoo that is manufactured specifically for oily hair and scalp. If you have an excessively oily hair and scalp, you may wash your hair every day.
Tip 2: Facial Skin Hygiene
Aside from having an oily scalp and hair, adolescents may also develop an oily skin on the face which may lead to acne. Therefore, it is necessary that you wash your face twice daily; morning and night. There are a lot of skin care products which can treat acne. But find ones which are compatible with your skin. If you have oily face, purchase product that are water-based and oil-free. Avoid touching your face with bare hands since it may be full of dirt and germs that just worsen acne. Avoid too much exposure under the sun or if it cannot be avoided then wear a good sunscreen. You may also visit a dermatologist if your acne does not get better.
Tip 3: Body Hygiene
Adolescents are more active, usually outdoors and sweat more. Take a bath every day with body wash and water to remove dirt, sweat and bacteria which all contribute to body odor. Males start developing hair on the face. Electric shaver or nonelectric razor can be used for getting rid of the facial hair. On the other hand, females may shave their legs and underarms with the use of razor to keep their skin smooth.
Tip 5: Oral Hygiene
Make it a habit to brush your teeth after each meal. Additionally, flossing every night should also be a part of your routine for oral hygiene. Doing these two things saves you from forming cavities and developing bad breath. Replace your toothbrush every month or it can be up to three months. Finally, for optimum oral hygiene, visit the dentist at least twice a year.
Tip 6: Vaginal Hygiene
Fluids are naturally produced by the reproductive system to cleanse the vaginal area. Therefore it is not advisable that you douche. All you need to do is to keep the external area of the vagina clean by washing it with mild soap then rinse it thoroughly with water. If you experience pain, itch, burning sensation or lumpy yellow/green discharge from your vagina, you should consult a gynecologist. You should also seek for medical advice if you feel pain while urinating.
